Best places to view a rocket launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Rocket launches can be viewed from several places around Vandenberg AFB. The map and list below highlight some of the best locations for viewing a rocket launch. Traffic can be excessive and parking will be limited before and after launches. Rocket launches are visible as far as Santa Barbara and Los Angeles on clear days and nights.

Surf Beach

W Ocean Ave is closed at 13th ST for rocket launches. At about 3 miles from the SLC-4 launch pad Surf Beach is one of the closest locations to see a rocket launch. Amtrak has a train station that is located right on the beach. The areas north and south of Surf Beach are closed March 1st through September 30th and the whole beach may be closed to protect the Snowy Plover bird nesting spots.

Renwick Ave & West Ocean Ave

A publicly accessible road about 4 miles from the launch pad. It is close to the pad but it is behind a small hill so the rocket won't be visible until it is in flight.

Harris Grade Rd

This location is farther away from the launch pads but is higher up.

Floradale Ave & West Ocean Ave

This site is further from the launch pad but it is higher in elevation for a good view of the launches.

Camellia Ln

A publicly accessible abandoned road about 4 miles from the launch pad.
